Wildland Firefighters Honor

Firefighting Honors

By: Katelin Kukk

We all appreciate and respect wildland firefighters but who exactly are these brave souls? Wildland firefighters’ control and suppress wilderness fires by air or on the ground. Duties included but are not limited to “mopping” up after a fire, raking burned landscapes, controlling burns, and more.

Being a wildland firefighter requires a lot of training and first-time firefighters must attend classes on proper safety precautions and fire behavior. This job is not for the faint of heart because conditions can be long and grueling.

Appreciate what wildland firefighters do to protect our forests and us today and every day. Every July 2nd is National Wildland Firefighter Day, but their commitment continues year-round!

Thank you wildland firefighters!
