The park provides protected shelter for several threatened and endangered species, including turtles, snakes, a manatee, a mouse, a whale, and a wide variety of fascinating birds.

With coastal hammock, open lagoon, and pine flatwoods habitats, it’s no wonder shorebirds flock to this natural gem.  Canaveral offers refuge for eagles, egrets, herons, ibises, gulls, osprey, pelicans, skimmers, terns, and a long list of others, big and small.

The Wood Stork was endangered in the United States until 2014 but recovered to its current status of threatened. It is the only stork species that breeds in the United States and Canada. The wood stork is still vulnerable due to loss and degradation of its native habitats.
