Tannersville Cranberry Bog

On August 28, the staff and their families of BioTriad Environmental had the opportunity to visit the enchanting Tannersville Cranberry Bog. Nestled within the Pocono mountains lies a long receded glacial lake from thousands of years ago.

While there are no cranberries in the bog, it does play host to a plethora of native plants, trees, and animals including the unique carnivorous pitcher plant, the Tamarack also known as Larch, and the adorable river otter to name a few.

With the help of The Nature Conservancy, Kettle Creek Environmetal Education Center, Pocono Township, the PA Dept of Conservation and Natural Resources and the valuable time of tireless local volunteers,the Tannersville Cranberry Bog is well preserved for the enjoyment and education of the public.

Should you find yourself in the Pocono Mountains, you won’t want to miss a trip to this incredible place and learn about its history and ecological value. I hear fall is an amazing time of year to have your camera in hand for a visit but don’t forget to wear your bug spray!
