Winterizing America
As leaves begin changing, days grow shorter and nights become colder. Chilly mornings remind us that winter is coming and, like bears building their dens and squirrels storing their nuts away, we have work to do. Following is a list of projects, some simple-some not, that may make life easier when freezing temperatures arrive:
● Check Smoke Detectors and Carbon Monoxide Detectors
● Disconnect hoses, drain and valve off outdoor lines
● Insulate and heat trace pipes and water systems
● Seal drafts (under and around doors, windows, etc.)
● Service primary and secondary heating systems
● Test boiler, fireplace, and furnace chimneys / vents
There are a number of items to have on hand when winter arrives. You could get snowed in at home, stuck on the road, and/or kept after hours at your job. This list can help you prepare for winter with confidence that you’ve done your best:
● Ice Melt for driveways, parking lots, and walkways
● Snow brushes, scrapers, and shovels for snow removal
● Blankets and extra winter clothing to keep in vehicles
● Tire chains, traction strips, flares, and lights in vehicles
● Windshield deicing fluid and jumper cables for vehicles
● Water, snacks, and a first aid kit to keep at home and in vehicles
● Flashlights, lamps, and batteries for home and the road
● Order Propane and/or heating oil before the mad rush
Be Prepared!
Wishing you a healthy and happy autumn from everyone here at BioTriad.
