Finding Fort Hamilton

The East Stroudsburg Dig

On Saturday, May 3rd, the BioTriad team joined SPA (the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology) to help find and recover Fort Hamilton in Stroudsburg, PA.
 
Danny Younger runs this group under Lenape Chapter # 12, whose chapter started this project. While he spearheads this project, credentialed archaeologists are also part of this project. This group aims to find fort-specific artifacts to help recover Fort Hamilton from the French Indian War. Pieces of red clay pottery have already been found, as well as an arrowhead, which was made into a makeshift arrow by a homeless man living on the property at the time. This recovery has just started and may take several years to be completed.

Possibly a significant artifact from the dig? Probably not, but possibly.

Could be another important artifact found May 3? SPA hasn’t had a chance to analyze any of the samples taken from the dig, but we’ve all got our hopes up! 

Although this work may sound serious, one of SPA’s objectives is to have fun while working. They have optimism that they will uncover an artifact and hope to earn the National Register of Historic Places nomination for this project.
