New Year Status
As January draws to a close, we take a status report on where we stand with our new year resolutions. For some, 2026 plans included spending less and saving more. Others chose to eat healthier, exercise more, and get more sleep. Many decided to give more to charity and increase volunteer work. Whatever your resolution, it can be helpful to review what you’ve done and the current state of your resolve.
Reflection
Remember why you chose this year’s resolutions and periodically revisit the reason you want what you want. Is your goal to lose weight? Take time every day to reflect on why weight loss is important.
Reasonable Goals
Set reasonable goals taking small, attainable steps toward your overall intention. Did you decide to save money? Put five or ten dollars away today, rather than waiting until the end of the week or month hoping to be able to put hundreds of dollars in the bank.
Ask for Help
If your goal is to exercise, find someone to workout with. If your goal is to take more hikes, try hiking with a friend. If there’s something you don’t know how to do, ask someone who does.
Form Habits
Set a schedule that you follow every day to develop long-term behavior. Is your resolution to drink more water? Try drinking a glass as soon as you wake up, then a glass when you get to work/school, a glass at coffee break, etc.. Continue until you’ve developed positive habits that could one day become rituals.
Look Forward, Not Back
Don’t let slip-ups bog you down. If you ate something you shouldn’t have or you missed a workout, don’t let it stress you out. Instead turn your attention to the next meal or trip to the gym.
Whatever your goals and wherever you stand on your progress, relax. There’s still time to get back on the right track. Maintain a positive attitude and keeping moving forward. 2026 is your year! Grab it by the horns!
