United States Department of the Interior
By Katelin Kukk
The idea of creating a department handling internal affairs was a consideration for many years before it was finally established. The Department of Interior was created on March 3rd, 1849. It was given a wide range of responsibilities, including the exploration of western wilderness, regulation of territorial governments, management of hospitals and universities, and more. Its main goals were to handle the United States’ internal affairs and promote the welfare of its people. Today, the department continues to play a vital role in protecting the nation’s natural resources, cultural heritage, and the well-being of the American people.
