Freedom for All
The June 19, 1865, Galveston proclamation, General Order No. 3, remains an important marker in the evolution of the United States of America. On that sunny southeast Texas morning, the people of Galveston learned that the Civil War was over, all people were free, and the age of owning slaves was done.
Today, we celebrate Juneteenth and freedom for all, gathering together across this great country to honor this historic day. We reflect on where our nation has been, where we are today, and where we’re heading. We wish you a joyful and meaningful Juneteenth!
