Mount Kilimanjaro’s distinguishing feature is its broad ice cap which is made up of glaciers and ice fields that formed hundreds of thousands of years ago. Erosion and climate fluctuations have been changing the mountain’s surface for eons. Today, Kilimanjaro’s ice is melting. Scientists predict the enormous mountain’s white cap will be completely gone by the year 2035.
