Mangrove Forests

Happy World Mangrove Day! Let us celebrate these important and special ecosystems. They provide natural infrastructure, food for people, offer refuge for organisms, improve water quality, and play a key role in sequestering carbon. Not only our health, but our planet’s health relies on the existence of these trees.

Unfortunately, mangroves are disappearing at alarming rates due to climate change and human activities. They are often cleared for firewood or coastal developments. In recent decades, researchers have discovered that more than half of mangroves have been cut down in some countries.
